Why should I hire someone licensed for my hot tub electrical?
You and I have both seen it all over the internet, “DIY hot tub hook up”, you may even have friends who have done it themselves without a hiccup along the way. The reality is there are so many unforseen hurdles that can happen, especially to someone not trained in electrical. A hot tub installation is not an easy task. Sometimes an upgrade of your electrical service might be needed to accommodate the power load the hot tub needs, sometimes the trench is so long a voltage drop needs to be calculated, and sometimes there is no good spot to place the hot tub disconnect.
Hot tubs are installed using a 240V, 50 A or 60 A electrical system. There are many specific codes for hot tub hook ups, such as specialty disconnects, distances from the panel to the hot tub, and electrical specs that make hiring an educated electrician the best choice. Additionally, hot tubs are large tubs filled with water, powered by electricity. It is always wise to have someone who is licensed, insured, and bonded when dealing with water and electricity.
